Healing Process: Most rib injuries heal naturally over 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer. The primary goal of treatment is pain management to allow for normal breathing and prevent complications.
Pain Management is Key: Effective pain control is crucial to enable deep breathing and coughing, which prevents serious lung complications like pneumonia and atelectasis.
No Rib Binding: Avoid wrapping or binding the chest tightly, as this restricts lung expansion and can worsen respiratory complications.
🤒 Associated Symptoms
Localized Pain: Sharp, intense pain at the site of injury, often worsening with deep breaths, coughing, sneezing, laughing, or movement.
Tenderness and Bruising: The injured area may be tender to touch, and bruising or swelling might be visible on the skin.
